Yesterday, I got some things finally delivered.
One, I got my copy of “Beginning Game Programming, a gamedev.net collection”. I’m chapters 5, 6, and 25.
I also got two of the items I purchased with the money I got for writing the chapters. I got my Blackstar and Flash Gordon cartoon DVD collections. They are old filmation cartoons. Blackstar is actually pretty lame, but it was only $4, and I remember having some of the toys.

Wii Fit Arrived
March 8, 2009Yesterday, our new Wii Fit arrived.
While I have been losing weight, I am still, as of this moment, 16 pounds more than its weight limit.
So, my wife, who is well under the weight limit, could use it, but I was planning on sitting out.
At least it gave me an intermediate weight loss goal – be “light” enough to get on the Wii Fit.
My wife pointed out to me that the step ladder I use to reach high places only accomodates 250 pounds, which I exceed by a great deal, and maybe the Wii Fit was the same sort of deal.
So, I attempted to step on it.
No, it didn’t break. It looks like it is a rather sturdy piece of equipent, which is good.
However, if you try to use it to play the game, it will scream and tell you “Ow! Ow! Get Off! Get Off!”
No, not really. It will tell you that you are over the weight limit.
So, I watched my wife play. Its a really cool thing, and I’m looking forward to being able to use it.
Unfortunately, this means one of two things, though.
I either have to lose about 20 pounds, as my official weekly weigh-ins are done sans couture.
Or I will have to lose about 16 pounds, and use the Wii Fit sans couture.
I think I’m going to go with the former, because nobody wants to see the latter.
Smoothe Scrolling JetLag

Need to click the game before playing, so that keyboard focus gets handled properly.
Space bar to start or restart the game.
Arrows to change direction.
Yes, the tail movement isn’t right. I’m working on it.
Also, now that the game is smoothe scrolling, your normal jetlag reflexes won’t work, as hit tests are very sensitive.

Wumpus Map

In the course of porting the Wumpus game to JS, I took a look at how the icosahedral world is mapped, and came up with an alternate way to represent it using rings. In the course of doing this, I determined that alternate wumpus worlds could exist with a similar geometry.
Wumpus world exists on a series of at least two rings. The original uses three rings. The innermost and outermost rings will have the same number of nodes. The original has five, but the number can be as low as 2.
The rings between the innermost and outermost will have twice as many nodes as the innermost or outermost.
So, if we describe the various wumpus universes in terms of number of rings and nodes in the innermost ring, we might say that the original is in wumpus universe 3-5.
And because something like this cannot be complete without a formula… the number of nodes in wumpus universe x-y is 2*(x-1)*y.
